12U Cincinnati Pride - Champions at Ripken PDF Print E-mail

by Ohio Field Reporter

This past week the 12U Cincinnati Pride travelled south to Myrtle Beach to finish off their season at The Ripken Experience.  Eighteen teams from nine states were competing for the Beach Blast championship.  The Pride started off the week strong as they set a Ripken record, being the first team ever to win every event in the skills competition (the Home Run Derby, the "Turn Two" Challenge, and the Bean Bob toss).  The Pride continued their impressive play as they dominated the tournament going 8-0 while outscoring their opponents 95-19 to bring home the championship.

The Ripken tournament ended an extremely impressive season as the Pride finished with a 59-3 record.  The Pride won 8 of 9 tournaments this season, including the Columbus USSSA Super NIT.  They finished the season with a 44 game winning streak, including 5 victories in the streak over TBS recognized teams.  While the Pride would have liked to return to the Elite 32 at Disney after their Super NIT victory to attempt to improve on last year’s 9th place finish, too many of the players/parents had other commitments.  The Pride are looking forward to coming back strong in 2012.
