13U CBA Cyclones finish 3rd at East Cobb Astros Invitational April 30 – May 1, 2011 in East Cobb, GA
The CBA Cyclones travelled to East Cobb to participate in the East Cobb Invitational. 13 teams participated including TBS # 14 East Cobb Astros, TBS #16 Tampa Crush, TBS HM East Cobb Braves.
The Cyclones finished pool play with a 2-0 record by defeating the East Cobb Extreme 8-7 and Classic City Longhorns 12-0. The Cyclones got quality innings from Ethan Thomas, Robbie Lively, Seige Benson, Gates Ely and Jacob Coker. Will Green and Thomas added homeruns for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones entered bracket play as the 4th seed behind the Astros, Crush and Braves respectively. The next opponent was the East Cobb Longhorns. The Cyclones were victorious 9-5 behind the pitching of Luke Hartman, Will Green and Robbie Lively. Carson Griffis had a multiple hit game.
The quarterfinals matched the Cyclones against #5 seed East Cobb Titans. Whit Davis was on the mound for the Cyclones and fell behind early 3-0 after one inning. In the top of the 2nd, Davis allowed no runs to keep the score at 3-0. The Cyclones scored 14 in the bottom half to take a 14-3 lead. Wheeler Eastman and Ethan Thomas had 2 hits each in the inning and Davis helped his cause with a grand slam home run. The Titans would fight back and close the gap but the Cyclones held on to win 15-10. Seth Richardson, Jacob Coker and Robbie Lively all made relief appearances.
The Cyclones fell to the host, #1 Seed East Cobb Astros 9-1 in the Semifinals. The Astros jumped out early 3-0 and added 3 in both the 3rd and 5th innings. The Cyclones lone run came in the 3rd inning. The Astros then took on the Tampa Crush in the Finals. The Crush won the Championship 5-4.
The Astros have qualified for the Elite 32 but will be participating in the FL and AL SNITs in the coming weeks. The Crush will be making a road trip to California for the MLK SuperNIT. The Cyclones will be hitting the road in quest of an Elite 32 bid by playing in the MS and AL SNITs. They will then travel North for the Nations Memorial Day Invitational in Chattanooga, TN.
